Glover

An educator providing engaging, creative, and rigorous lessons that promote the goals of literacy,

critical-thinking, problem solving, collaboration skills, and applications to everyday life for all students. I try to be a "marigold" to everyone I come in contact with!

My Teaching Philosophy

From building relationships with my students to creating a space in which the students want to be in, the environment in which they learn is essential to their learning. There is an African proverb that states, "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth." Creating an environment that is warm and welcoming both physically and emotionally improves everyone's classroom experience.

Positive Learning Environment

Student Engagement

Engaged students are learning students. By giving my students the autonomy they crave, and creating classroom assignments that my students can be excited about, they become fully engaged in the lesson and are able to learn more!

Critical Thinking Skills

Critical thinking skills are essential to long term and real-life success outside of the classroom. By encouraging my students to develop these skills while simultaneously showing them how the content will benefit them in the future, I am preparing them for their future.

My Leadership Philosophy

As a leader I know I am held to a higher standard than those I lead. If I am unwilling to do the same thing I am asking those I lead to do, then I will not build a relationship with them and foster a sense of trust that leads to a strong working relationship.

Lead by Example

Marigolds and Walnuts

There are two types of teachers in schools: Marigolds, and Walnuts. Marigolds help nourish the earth around them, providing the necessary nutrients other plants need to grow and thrive. Walnuts leach every nutrients from the soil around it, causing everything growing nearby to wither and die. I want to be a “marigold” for the people with which I come into contact.

My Classroom

Collaboration, Creativity, and Critial Thinking are some of my favorite things to combine to evaluate students.

I fully believe in the power of data to drive instruction and motivate students.

Anchor Charts are necessary for student success.

Lessons I’m Proud Of

Fast and Curious

This is a vocabulary or quick skill (such as math facts) learning protocol that promotes long term retention of words and skills, and follows important steps in the memory process to ensure success.

The goal is for the class to reach 95% mastery by day 5, and I have never had a class not meet the goal.

Reading Plus Success

I am a huge advocate for the success of Reading Plus when done with fidelity. Each year that we have implemented this reading program, my students have shown impressive gains on their reading level. I love how it is naturally differentiated for each student and meets them where they are. I have had classroom success with Reading Plus in co-teach, regular ed, and gifted classrooms. I institute an incentive program that helps motivate students personally and as a class as a whole.

Narrative Characterization

Upon reading a story and mapping out a characters character traits and motivation, my students not only write an argumentative response to literature with their chosen character trait, but also complete project such as a Body Biography project to show their understanding of how the author uses their word choices to build our understanding of that character’s role in the story.
